Back pain and Physiotherapy

Back pain is common that 80% of people suffer from this, in all age groups. It may be tempting to stay on the couch all day when you’re experiencing back or neck pain. But that will only produce more pain. Although running or walking might be the last thing you feel like doing, physical therapy and exercise can be the most reliable way to decrease pain.

People experience from different forms of back pain, be it pain because of degenerative disc disease, or herniated discs or pain you experience from sciatica, or you may be experiencing pain from upper, mid or lower back strains.

Disc herniation is because of wearing down of spinal discs, causing it to bulge or sometimes rupture. The soft gel-like cushions start diminishing causing the vertebrates to rub against each other.
This can trigger pain and discomfort in some, resulting in numbness or tingling in the hands, and feet, pain in the hips, and buttocks including a shooting pain down the arms and legs.
Sciatica is the result of the sciatic nerve root problem where the pain originates in your lower back and travel down to your sciatic nerve. There are many terms correlated with sciatica. Sciatica,  otherwise known as Lumbar radiculopathy (also radicular pain) is a symptom of an underlying medical disorder and not a medical diagnosis.

Physical therapy exercises blending a combination of strengthening, stretching, and aerobic conditioning plays a major part in almost any sciatica treatment plan. Recent studies show that the most significant factor in avoiding back injury might be your general physical conditioning.

Regular aerobic exercise, such as walking or swimming, provides the conditioning to have a healthy back. Specific exercises to mobilize and strengthen the spine can also be effective in preventing recurrence of back pain. Strong stomach and back muscles are necessary to support your spine properly, and a physiotherapist can give guidance on the relevant exercises to tone and strengthen these muscles. Even pelvic health is critical, especially during pregnancy.

Physiotherapists are experienced in the supervision of back injuries. A physiotherapist will provide a comprehensive evaluation of your back to discover the source of the problem, and to cultivate an individualized program to treat your symptoms. Always talk with your doctor and get his approval before beginning a physical therapy or exercise program in a physiotherapy clinic near you.
